COMMUNITY PROFILE

>

The Community we serve is comprised of different tribes of Kenya mainly the Kamba, Kikuyu, Luo, Luyha, Kalenjine, Meru, and Maasai among others. All these tribes have been staying together and intermarrying. Each tribe has its own unique customs and lifestyles that are weaved together by the threads of different ideologies and beliefs. Each tribe has its unique philosophy in the way it associates itself with the society in totality.
The city of Nairobi has a population of about three million people where the majority comes from the tribes mentioned above.
The city is sub- divided into two regions, that is, Westlands and Eastlands.

Westlands
This is a region presumably for the upper-class people whose monthly income is above 50,000 Kenya Shillings (about 700 US dollars).

Eastlands
On the other hand, Eastlands region is apparently for the low-income earners, middle-class earners and the poor who most of them cannot afford 1 (one) Usa dollar (70 Kenya Shillings) per day. It is in this region where it is densely populated especially in the slums where one couple may have 8-10 children staying in a mud house without running water and electricity.

Despite the lack of quality infrastructure, and the state of poverty in Eastlands, many of these people love the Lord Jesus Christ with sense of commitment of heart and mind. It is in this region where many churches are despite poor health facilities, poor sanitation which pre-dispose to disease like typhoid, dysentery, malaria, cholera and skin conditions (diseases) among others.
The government has small clinics in each sub- location (suburb) with the ration of 1(one) clinic serving around 70,000 people.

The Church
If the church as a whole in this area can be empowered in all spheres, it is a great invincible and yet tangible force which can bring an EMANCIPATION of the great potentials of the thousands of people whom unless otherwise they will enrich the grave- yard, where many great dreams of the great- to- be people are buried because they were not given a chance or an opportunity. They were not heard, neither were they manifested as in the book of the Romans 8:19 because of their position in society.

Had it not been for Martin Luther Junior, whom God raised to speak for his people in the United States of America, it is no doubt that the voices of the minority blacks and the underprivileged in that society would not have been heard.
He said that he had a dream where one-day men and women were going to by judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. He brought an EMANCIPATION TO HIS PEOPLE.
Many a time the problem here is not the devil as many people assume, but the very devil uses the ignorance of these people to confine them to poverty, lack and diseases. God speaks for Himself in the book of Hosea 4:6 and says… “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. It is not the devil that destroys but lack of knowledge in God.

Education System
The education system is also in a poor state especially in primary schools where one classroom has up to 80-90 pupils and one teacher. This situation has caused the number of truants and school drop-outs to increase. The situation is so after the government introduced a free primary education five years ago. It is not 100% free because the parents have to buy exercise books, uniforms and contribute towards building activities once in while as the need arises.
Seemingly it is cheap if not free, because many parents can afford to take their children to school whom for many years before they could not afford. The problem is that students do not receive quality education because of their numbers in classes. The system is not flexible to identify slow learners from fast learners nor does it allow teachers to rest and add a sense of motivation to enable them to deliver.
It is unlike private schools, which have a very unique system of learning where each teacher is supposed to reach 30-40 pupils in a class. The results in the final primary exams (Kenya Certificate Primary Education - K.C.P.E) proves that more work should be done in public primary schools in comparison with the private ones which performs very well in producing many pupils to join the University unlike the public schools.
That is why you should consider volunteering or supporting someone in your country to volunteer or support us by donating to us to help our people.

Hear what Mr. JOB of old said concerning the approach he had to his community; …. I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me, and
I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
I was eyes to the blind,
And feet was I to the lame.
I was a father to the poor, and the cause, which I knew not I searched out. Job 29: 12-13,15-16

That sounds like what the church is called to be. You can be one of the above if not all. You can choose to be the 'feet’ to the lame or to be the ‘eyes’ to the blind! That is why wherever you are around the globe; we are willing to CONNECT you to an opportunity of becoming either of the above if not all.

Who Are We!

The Prison Outreach Ministry and Volunteering center is an Outreach wing of evangelism and care-giving Christian Organization which has its primary goal in reaching out to those who are behind bars in our Kenyan Prisons
( Correctional Centers) and their immediate families. That is, either spouse and their children's welfare.
It is to sister web site to International Christian missions & Volunteer Placement Center a church Christian Organization, and a wing of evangelism and Community development of the Power of the Cross Ministries International, a non- denominational Ministry based in Nairobi Kenya, East Africa under the leadership of Pastor Stephen Phinehas Ndivo

The Lord God put a burden in my heart to reach out to the prisoners and their families , preaching and ministering to them the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and on the other hand sharing the love of God by caring in deed for the inmates and their families back at home with food, clothing,
medical care, school fees, for their children and even quality shelter as the Lord God enables us.

We pray with the inmates twice a week for a about 30 minutes, laying on our hands on them where even the prison officers joins us for a time of Refreshing.
Sometimes we do carry for them such items like;
bathroom slippers,Toilet Tissue Papers, Toothbrushes,Tooth pastes, Bibles( Both English & Swahili Christian Magazines and books, Bathroom Soaps as the Lord God enables us by His eternal Grace.

While we are dancing and rejoicing because of what the Lord has done, there are millions of our brothers and sisters who are behind bars in our prisons un-attended both Spiritually, psychologically and even physically.
Many of them have families to take care of as breadwinners; but pause for a minute and ask yourself these questions;
1)Are their children going to school?
2)Do they have enough food?
3)Are they clothed?
4)Do they have the quality Shelter?
5)Are they warm?
6)Where are their spouses and what are they doing?
7)Are they healthy?

With all these questions and many more, I believe it is the right time the church of Jesus Christ must arise to the occasion and take up the task of reaching out to the prisoners and their IMMEDIATE FAMILIES.

That is my concern when I see the state of anguish and despair in prisoners and hearing stories of misery and lost hope of what tomorrow holds.
There are some prisons with a capacity of around 2000 (Two Thousand) persons, but it has more than 4,500-6,000 persons (prisoners) due to lack of adequate space. Many die of mere colds for lack of blankets and because of cold floors.
We may not strike an impression before our God and our generation if we fail to take a step of faith and share the love of Christ Jesus in the capacity we can in line with our diverse callings and skills.
I lost my brother-in –law on 29 December 2007 in one of our Prisons, Why? Due to Negligence.
Jesus Christ’s great commission still remains “Go ye to all the world and preach the Gospel”…. This includes the prisoners and their families.

Hear what the Great Master Himself has to say to you and me:

“…I was Hungry and you gave me food,
I was Thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was a Stranger and you welcomed me,
I was Naked and you clothed me,
I was Sick and you visited me,
I was IN PRISON AND YOU CAME TO ME…
…Truly, I say to you, as you DID it to one o f the LEAST of these My Brethren, you did it to Me.” – (Mathews 25: 35b-36, 40b)

Hear what Pastor Job of old tells you and I, … “….

As a Pastor, it bits logic to assume that one can preach the gospel, which is the Power of God unto Salvation to a hungry and a thirsty person.
Our approach is to reach out to prisoners and by God’s help reach out to their immediate families and physically share the Great love of Christ in totality to the cry of the Master.
We really need your Input Support, Help and Knowledge to be able to heed to the great cry of compassion to them whom circumstances have forced them to the Pit of dire need.

Due to the poverty level in our Community, it is said that sex is the only ‘leisure’ of a poor man. I agree on that statement because great numbers of children are in the Slums. You can find a family of around 9-12 members and they cannot even afford two (2) meals in a day or 1(One) Us$ (Dollars)- around 70(Seventy) Kenya Shillings per day. As a Pastor, I may lead them to the saving Grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but they are still hungry and naked.
That is why I need you the Minister of the Gospel, the Volunteer (The good Samaritan), Financial donor and the Material donor etc to consider helping us in the Capacity you are well equipped.
There are over 30(Thirty) prisons in Kenya. Given an opportunity of getting Ministers, Volunteers and Financial empowerment and material, we can reach out to all prisons at least once a year. There are some towns where only 4x4 Vehicles can pass due to lack of good roads caused by heavy rains, hence by getting such a vehicle, we shall be able to put a smile on child whose father is in prison, and a wife and a husband whose Spouse is in jail.
We wish to ask and request you to heed to our earnest plead.

Envisioned Future

It is our prayer that by God's Grace and your support in the capacity you are in we shall be able to reach out to almost every prisoner in Kenya. W e are believing God to acquire the following ITEMS which will enhance our prison outreach ministry for speed and effective evangelism through out Kenya.
This Items are: 1
1)a) Powered Speakers (b)Mixer ( Console) ( c) Amplifiers (d) Microphones( with Cable & wireless) (e) Keyboard ( f ) Guitars ( Lead&Bass) (g ) Drum set ( h ) Equalizer

Note Below:

The same sound System will enable the ministers to reach out many people in prisons halls where the meetings are normally held. On the other hand the same sound system will enable the preacher / Minister to reach out to thousands of people when preaching / ministering at the open air crusades in the evenings.
This evangelism campaigns draws so many people from far and wide in the area where we are having the meetings. Sometimes a crowd of about 10,000- 20,000 people can gather to hear the gospel when the meetings are well advertised but the sound system we have can effectively cover a crowd of about 3,000- 5,000 people at a time. Many leave the meetings disappointed . It pains us !!!

2)Video Cameras & Projectors:
To be able to show Christian Narrated Movies like 'The Life of Jesus Christ' and 'The Passion
of Christ' among others.

3)A Provision of Bibles :( English & Swahili)
To give to the inmates and their families.

4) A Computer( Laptop) :
For documenting our Ministry events without necessarily going to a Cyber-cafe.

5) A 4X4 Ministry Van :
For carrying the sound system and the prison outreach Crew to the meeting venues.

What to Carry to Aid Your Mission:

We earnestly request every prison outreach Minister and Volunteer to carry what he/ she believes will aid his/ her mission work effectively. We also extend our earnest request to you DEAR MINISTER & VOLUNTEER to consider to come and gave us a hand in ministering to our brothers and sisters( inmates) both spiritually and physically.
As you plan to come, consider also to support us to ACQUIRE the above mentioned items for the glory of God.
We will greatly be thankful to God for you.

Organization's Statement of Faith

The sole basis of our beliefs is the Bible, God's infallible written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that it was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and that it was written without error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters on which it speaks. We accept those areas of doctrinal teaching on which, historically, there has been general agreement among all true Christians. Because of the specialized calling of our movement, we desire to allow for freedom of conviction on other doctrinal matters, provided that any interpretation is based upon the Bible alone, and that no such interpretation shall become an issue which hinders the ministry to which God has called us.1.There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality. Jesus Christ is God, the living Word, who became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. Hence, He is perfect Deity and true humanity united in one person forever.2.He lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone.3.He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died. He ascended bodily into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own.4.Man was originally created in the image of God. He sinned by disobeying God; thus, he was alienated from his Creator. That historic fall brought all mankind under divine condemnation.5.Man's nature is corrupted, and he is thus totally unable to please God. Every man is in need of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.6.The salvation of man is wholly a work of God's free grace and is not the work, in whole or in part, of human works or goodness or religious ceremony. God imputes His righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation, and thereby justified them in His sight.7.It is the privilege of all who are born again of the Spirit to be assured of their salvation from the very moment in which they trust Christ as their Savior. This assurance is not based upon any kind of human merit, but is produced by the witness of the Holy Spirit, who confirms in the believer the testimony of God in His written word.8.The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to men. He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life to them, continually indwells them from the moment of spiritual birth and seals them until the day of redemption. His fullness, power and control are appropriated in the believer's life by faith.9.Every believer is called to live so in the power of the indwelling Spirit that he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God.10.Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His Body, which is composed of all men, living and dead, who have been joined to Him through saving faith. God admonishes His people to assemble together regularly for worship, for participation in ordinances, for edification through the Scriptures and for mutual encouragement.11.At physical death the believer enters immediately into eternal, conscious fellowship with the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting glory and blessing.12.At physical death the unbeliever enters immediately into eternal, conscious separation from the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting judgment and condemnation.13.Jesus Christ will come again to the earth -- personally, visibly and bodily -- to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.14.The Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to disciple men of every nation. The fulfillment of that Great Commission requires that all worldly and personal ambitions be subordinated to a total commitment to "Him who loved us and gave Himself for us."
